Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

On Friday, the Blue Crabs (34-23) rebounded from a 10-5 loss the previous night to Lancaster.

Similar to game one of the series, the Barnstormers (28-29) took an early lead in the second inning with a three-run rally at Regency Furniture Stadium.

However, Jermy Acey hit a two-out homerun in the bottom of the second inning to jump start the Blue Crabs offense.

In the bottom of the third, Blue Crabs' Mike Just hit a bunt single to lead off the inning and Travis Garcia followed it up with a double off the right-field wall. Patrick Osborn then singled to left, scoring Just from third easily.

Next, James Shanks grounded into a double play for the Crabs but Garcia was able to score from third to tie the game at 3.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Blue Crabs took their first lead of the series when Jeremy Owens hit a full count, two-out home run over the center-field wall to put the Crabs up 4-3.

After Blue Crabs' starter Kenny Baugh got out of a third inning jam, he became economical in the middle innings, retiring 10 of 11 batters before being pulled to start the seventh inning. Baugh (5-3) picked up the win and finished with 6 innings pitched, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits and 5 walks.

Lance Burkhart joined the homerun party in the sixth, hitting a towering shot over the tall left-field wall to increase the lead to 5-3 for Southern Maryland.

The Blue Crabs picked up the win after adding insurance runs in the seventh and eighth to go up 7-3.

Ben Fritz (3-3) picked up the loss for Lancaster, going six innings, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks.

After the win, the Blue Crabs move four games ahead of Long Island in the Liberty Division. The magic number for the Crabs is 10 to clinch a playoff spot with a first-half title.
