Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN - The Camden Riversharks announced today that they have agreed to terms with infielder Jose Leon. Leon was originally drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 22nd round of the 1994 amateur draft. He made his major league debut with the Baltimore Orioles on June 16, 2002.
Leon brings an extensive résumé with him to the Riversharks. He has been playing baseball professionally for 15 years, and has spent the majority of his career playing at the AAA level or higher. His career highlight came during the 2002 and 2003 seasons, when he appeared in 57 games for the Baltimore Orioles.
"We are hoping that Jose will add a little bit of pop to our lineup," said Riversharks Manager Joe Ferguson. "He's shown throughout his career that he has the power to hit the ball out of the park, and we're hoping he can do that here too," he added.
In addition to his time in the major leagues, Leon has spent much of his career playing baseball at the AAA level, specifically in the Mexican League. His best season came in 2006 as a member of the Campeche Pirates, when he posted a .348 batting average, with 17 homeruns and 49 RBI. He was selected to the Mexican League All Star game in both 2006 and 2007.
Leon will be activated immediately, and available to play in the Riversharks game against the Long Island Ducks tonight, at 7:05pm. Limited seating for the game is still available. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.riversharks.com or call 1-866-SHARKS-9.
