Two Sharks Named to All Defense Team

October 14, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL) - Camden Riversharks News Release

Camden, NJ- Oct 14, 2015- The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced today the 2015 Red, White & Blue All-Defense team, featuring the Rawlings Gold Glove Award. Riversharks outfielders Carlos Guzman and Michael Rockett were named to the team.

Carlos Guzman had a batting average of .276 with 10 homeruns and 67 RBI's. He had the longest hitting streak in the Atlantic League this season at 23 games. Guzman played multiple positions for the Sharks this season including first base, 3rd base, centerfield and right field. He had a perfect fielding percentage at third base and a .991 fielding percentage in the outfield with 12 assists, while commiting just 4 errors on the season.

Michael Rockett had a batting average of .269 with two homeruns and 40 RBI's. While he mostly played centerfield for the Sharks, he also stepped in at third base, second base and short stop. He had a .990 fielding percentage in centerfield with 12 assists, while committing only 3 errors at the position.

"I can't say enough good things about both of these players", said manager Chris Widger. "They never let at bats change what they did on the field and I can't even begin to count the amount of runs they saved us in the outfield".

Other selections to the team included catcher Juan Apodaca of Lancaster, first baseman Andres Perez of York, second baseman Nate Spears of Somerset, third baseman Patrick Palmeiro of Sugar Land, shortstop Dan Lyons of Long Island, outfielder Welington Dotel of Bridgeport and RHP Roy Merritt of Somerset.

The Rawlings Gold Glove Defensive Player of the year was awarded to Dan Lyons, shortstop for the Long Island Ducks.
