Camden Riversharks News Release

The Camden Riversharks defeated the Long Island Ducks today, by a final score of 6-0. Camden pitcher Josh Brey (1-2) picked up the win, as he pitched 5 scoreless innings, scattering 5 hits, and fanning 2 batters. The loss was charged to Long Island starter Randy Leek (2-6), who gave up 6 runs in 6 innings of work. With the win, the Riversharks' season tally improves to 25-31, while Long Island falls to 30-26.

The Riversharks jumped out to an early lead in this game, as leadoff hitter Chris Walker notched his second homerun of the season; a solo shot that curled just inside the left field foul pole in the bottom of the first inning. The Sharks added a second run to their lead the following inning. First baseman Vito Chiaravollotti doubled to center field, and then came around to score courtesy of an RBI base hit by Jason Jacobs that gave the home team a 2-0 lead.

The offensive onslaught continued for Camden in the third inning, as they doubled their lead. Shortstop Jansy Infante singled to center field to start the inning. Two batters later, designated hitter Bryant Nelson stepped to the plate and crushed a two run homerun to left field, putting the Ducks in a four run deficit. The homerun was Nelson's fifth of the year.

Camden tacked on an additional run in the bottom of the 5th inning. Walker doubled to left field, and then picked up his 19th stolen base of the year when he safely slid into third base. He then scored when Nelson singled to left field, giving the Riversharks a 5-0 lead.

Camden's lead was extended again in the 6th inning, courtesy of an RBI double by Jacobs, that plated Chiaravollotti for a second time in the game, and gave the Sharks a 6-0 lead that they would not relinquish.

The Riversharks and Ducks will play game two of their four game series tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Right handed pitcher Ryan Drese (1-4, 3.45) will take the mound for the Riversharks. Limited seating for the game is still available. For more information, or to purchase tickets visit www.riversharks.com.
