Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Staten Island, NY - The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Staten Island Yankees by a score of 10-3 on Friday evening at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. With the result, the Renegades saw their record improve to 33-32 while Staten Island fell to 34-31.
First baseman Nic Wilson led off the top of the second inning with a single and came around to score on a RBI single by second baseman Oscar Sanay, giving the Renegades a 1-0 lead. That lead was extended to 2-0 in the top of the third inning on a RBI single from designated hitter Matt Dacey, driving in left fielder Joe McCarthy.
That ended the night for Staten Island's starting pitcher James Kaprielian (0-1) as he took the loss after allowing two runs off six hits in two and a third innings. The Yankees cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI single from center fielder Jeff Hendrix.
Hudson Valley's catcher Danny De La Calle was hit by a pitch in the top of the fourth inning and moved to third base on a double from shortstop Michael Russell. With two outs, Dacey drove in a pair of runs on a single to give the Renegades a 4-1 lead.
Hudson Valley's starting pitcher Angel Yepez (5-2) tossed five innings and allowed a run off six hits in the winning effort. Yepez is now 3-0 against Staten Island as he defeated the Yankees back on July 6th and on August 6th.
The Renegades exploded for six runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 10-1 lead. The inning was highlighted by a RBI double from Russell, a RBI single from pinch hitter Alex Schmidt and a two-run single from McCarthy. The Yankees picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, including a RBI sacrifice fly from Hendrix but Brandon Koch finished the contest off on the mound for the Renegades.
Notes: The Renegades knocked out 16 hits on Friday night, giving them a new single game high for the 2015 season. Seven of those hits came from the first and second hitters in the Hudson Valley lineup: Joe McCarthy and Michael Russell. McCarthy went four-for-six on the night with a pair of RBI and runs scored and Russell went three-for-five with two runs scored. McCarthy has now hit safely in six straight games and Russell has picked up a hit in five of his last seven games played.
The Renegades return to Wappingers Falls to host the Staten Island Yankees on Saturday, August 29th at 7:05pm. Saturday night is "Valentine's Redemption Day" at Dutchess Stadium presented by Belizzi Jewelers and ALS. Fans can enjoy a fireworks show after the game as well.
