Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
NORWICH, CT-The Connecticut Tigers (31-31) took the second game of the three game series against the Lowell Spinners (33-33) by a score of 1-0. It was the Tigers third straight win.
Spenser Watkins (5-4) was the story on this night as he dominated the Spinners. Watkins was perfect for the first three innings and only allowed three hits in seven innings. He struck seven, a season high, for the third time this year as he pitched a team high in innings.
Jake Shull (SV 8) went the last two innings to get the save. Shull left the tying run on third in the ninth and struck out four in his outing.
Connecticut scored the only run of the game in the first inning against Spinners starter Austin Glorius (1-2). With two-outs first basemen Will Allen singled and moved to third on an error. He then scored on a balk to make it 1-0.
Glorius was nearly as good as Watkins as he lasted six innings giving up two hits and just the one run. He struck out six and walked three.
Connecticut will play the third game of a three game series at home against Lowell on Saturday. The first pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76 game schedule that runs from mid June through early September. 2015 season tickets, group tickets, mini plans, individual game tickets, and team merchandise are now on sale!
