August 28, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
A four run lead is all they needed.
The Black Bears scored four of their seven runs in the first innings, that was a big enough lead to hold onto an eventual 7-2 win over the Scrappers on Thursday night in West Virginia.
Christian Kelley singled to center and later scored on a Ryan Nagle. walk. Ke'Bryan Hayes then grounded into a force, which scored Ty Moore.
Casey Hughtson ripped a single to center to plate Hayes and Albert Baur. The Black Bears led 4-0 after one.
They added another run in the bottom of the second when Mitchell Tolman tripled to left. He later scored on a Kelley ground out.
The Scrappers refused to go down without something. Ka'ai Tom doubled to left. Tom went 2-for-4, to extend his hit streak to a season-best 10 games. Mark Mathias singled, and then Nate Winfrey hit a single to center to score Tom and Mathias.
Leandro Linares (0-7) struggled with his command again. He took the loss after going just one inning giving up three hits and four earned runs. Linares walked three in just one inning.
JT Brubaker (5-4) was lights out for the Black Bears. He went six innings and allowed just two hits.
Mahoning Valley has now lost five of its last seven, and is 2-5 against the Black Bears this season. The Scrappers send Brock Hartson to the hill on Friday night against Dario Agrazal for the Black Bears. First pitch is set for 7:05.
