Lexington Legends News Release
The Legends smashed three home runs in a 9-2 demolition of the Drive on Thursday night. Lexington improves to 23-16 and maintains its stronghold atop the northern division.
The game remained scoreless until the Legends got the bats going in the fifth. With one out, Ryan Reed launched his second home run of the season for the 1-0 lead. Eric Cavers followed with a single then moved to second on Wladimir Sutil's single. After a passed ball advanced both runners, Mitch Einertson extended his hit streak to 12 games with a two RBI single.
Mike Thompson made it back-to-back nights with a homer as he sent one into the bleachers in the sixth. It was his second of the season and gave the Legends a 4-0 lead.
It took the Drive until the eighth to put together some offense. Mark Wagner led off the inning with a double, then scored on Tony Granadillo's single.
With two out, Logan Sorensen singled, advancing Granadillo to second. A wild pitch and two walks plated Granadillo, cutting the Legends lead to two.
But the Legends sealed the deal in the bottom half of the inning, adding five more runs. After Einertson singled with one out, Mark Ori followed with a single, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Eli Iorg walked to load the bases for Thompson. A force out at home plate on a fielder's choice left the bases loaded for Josh Flores. Flores singled, scoring Ori and juicing the bases for the third time in the inning. And Reed took advantage with his second home run of the game, blasting a grand slam over the right-field wall for the 9-2 win.
Legends pitcher Sean Walker had a no-hitter through five and picked up his fourth win of the season with seven innings of work. Brandon Stricklen earned his fifth save.
After splitting the series against Greenville, Lexington continues the home stand Friday night at Applebee's Park, opening a four-game series against the Augusta GreenJackets. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
