
Captains Cruz to win over Suns

(Eastlake, Ohio)-Designated hitter Chris De La Cruz blooped a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Lake County Captains over the Hagerstown Suns 9-8 in a shootout victory at Classic Park Thursday morning.
The lead changed hands three times in the contest with the Captains (21-19) taking the last change in the bottom of the seventh.
The Suns (16-23) got good production from Joe Holden and Leivi Ventura, as each player had multi-hit games and contributed 3 RBI's a piece. Ventura belted two homeruns in the contest both off of Captains starter Frank Herrmann.
With Hagerstown leading 8-6 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Captains third baseman Nick Petrucci got things going with two outs as he reached base on a walk. Marshall Szabo and Jose Constanza followed with two singles each, Constanza with the RBI as Petrucci was plated on the play. After Juan Valdes walked to load the bases, De La Cruz delivered a bloop single over the heads of Jon Schemmel, and Hector Pellot to score Szabo and Constanza giving the Captains a 9-8 advantage.
Reliever Dustin Roddy (2-0) tossed two innings of relief, giving up two runs on three hits, and struck out one in recording his second victory of the season. Suns reliever Grady Hinchman (0-1) took the loss for Hagerstown. Matt Davis pitched a 1-2-3 ninth tallying his league leading 11th save of the year.
The Captains travel to Delmarva to take on the Shorebirds in a four game series starting Friday night at 6:35 p.m. (WELW AM 1330, WKNR AM 850). RHP Jim Deters (2-2, 3.52) will take the hill for the Captains, RHP Chorye Spoone (3-1, 3.37) will oppose Deters for the Shorebirds.
