
Drive Stall In 9-2 Loss To Legends

Lexington, KY - A night after pummeling the Lexington Legends for 20 runs on 14 hits, the Greenville Drive managed just two runs on six hits at Applebee's Park Thursday night. The loss dropped the Drive to 21-19 while the win improved the Legends to 23-16.
After four scoreless innings, the Legends finally broke through for three runs off reliever Hunter Jones. With one out Ryan Reed hit his first of two home runs off the evening, giving the Legends a 1-0 lead. Eric Cavers and Wladimir Sutil then followed with back-to-back singles before advancing on a passed ball by catcher Mark Wagner. Both runners would score on Mitch Einertson's two-out single to left.
The Legends would add another run in the bottom of the sixth when Michael Thompson hit a two-out home run to left. The homer was Thompson's second of the season.
The Drive would finally get on the board in the top of the eighth by scoring two runs. Mark Wagner led off the inning with a double and scored on Tony Granadillo's single up the middle. With two outs, Logan Sorensen singled to left advancing Granadillo to second. Relief pitcher German Melendez then walked Dustin Kelly and Yahmed Yema to allow Greenville's final run.
Lexington would push across five runs in the bottom half of the eighth to put the game out of reach. Josh Flores hit a bases loaded single, scoring Mark Ori before Reed hit his second homer of the evening, a grand slam off Blake Maxwell.
Hunter Jones (1-3) took the loss tossing 3.1 innings allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits while striking out four.
The Drive now travel to West Virginia to play the Power in a four-game series. Friday night's first pitch is set for 7:05 PM. The Drive will send right-hander Chris Jones to the hill as the Power will counter with right-hander Kevin Roberts.
