Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (39-49) showcased all aspects of good baseball in their 5-2 win over the Sioux City Explorers (45-43) Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.

The 4,156 fans in attendance are able to attest that the RedHawks are officially back on the winning track and playing good, all-around baseball. Fargo-Moorhead displayed strong hitting, pitching and fielding while tying their season high win streak at five games.

Kyle Nichols got the RedHawks on the board in the second inning; making this the first game in their win streak that the RedHawks didn't score at least two runs in the first inning. Nichols jumped on his first pitch of the night, hitting a line drive to left field that scored Cota.

C.J. Retherford provided clutch hitting in the third and fifth innings to add three more runs to the RedHawks' total. Then, Mike Coles smoked a ground rule double to center field to score Jonathan Wyatt in the seventh inning and make the score 5-0.

Wyatt, Retherford, and Hoorelbeke all showcased their defensive skills in this game as well. In the sixth inning, Wyatt made a jumping catch up against the wall on Ray Serrano. Serrano had already hit a double in the game and tallied both of the Explorers' runs in the eighth inning with a two-run home run. Retherford and Hoorelbeke worked together for a spectacular play in the seventh inning. Retherford charged a slow rolling ground ball, picked it up bare hand and made a hard throw to first base. Hoorelbeke lunged for the throw while barely keeping his toe on the bag for the out.

Meanwhile, rookie pitcher, Trevor Longfellow, tossed seven scoreless innings in only his second professional start and his first at Newman Outdoor Field. Longfellow (1-1) allowed only five hits while striking out six batters in his first win. Ty Marotz (6-4) pitched a complete game for Sioux City but received the loss after giving up five runs (all earned) on ten hits.

Coles was 3-for-3 for the second night in a row with two doubles, a run scored and a run batted in. Nichols broke out of a slump with a 3-for-4 night. Retherford continued to hit the ball well going 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.

The RedHawks will take on the Sioux City Explorers in the second game of their three-game series on Wednesday night. Game time is 7:02 pm. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 701-235-6161, online at www.fmredhawks.com, or at the Ticket Office during business hours.
