St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (August 17, 2011) - The St. Paul Saints have one true outfielder on their roster after Jonathan Van Every's season ended when he broke his finger. They took care of that issue on Wednesday receiving Fort Worth Cats outfielder Ryan Patterson, completing an earlier trade that sent reliever Robert Manuel to the Cats.

The 28-year-old Patterson has spent time with both the Cats and the Wichita Wingnuts this season, having been traded from Wichita back on July 12. Overall on the season, Patterson is hitting .317 with 19 home runs and 76 RBI in 88 games. In 386 at bats he has scored 84 runs, has 27 doubles, two triples, an on base percentage of .381 and a .549 slugging percentage. On top of that he is 12 for 16 in stolen bases. He is currently first in the American Association in runs and at bats, second in total bases (212), tied for second in games played, third in hits, tied for third in homers and fourth in extra base hits (48). He has already tied a career high in runs scored and has tied his second best season for homers and is 13 RBI shy of his career high in RBI.

Patterson was drafted on three separate occasions. The first time was by the Kansas City Royals in the 49th round of the 2001 MLB June amateur draft. He was drafted again the next year by the Atlanta Braves in the 34th round. The final time was in 2005 by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth round. He spent 2005-2008 in the Blue Jays organization, spending his last three seasons at Double-A.

Following his time with the Blue Jays he spent 2009 with the Cats and 2010 with the Wingnuts. After beginning 2011 with the Wingnuts he was traded to the Cats in exchange for pitcher Derek Blacksher.

The Saints roster now stands at the league maximum 22 players, 11 pitchers and 11 position players.
