Moore Breaks Strikeout Record Again in Loss to Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. - Sioux Falls Pheasants starting pitcher Ben Moore broke a strikeout record for the second straight year on Wednesday night but still came up on the short end of a 7-2 loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs.

The Pheasants' ace struck out 10 and surpassed his own league and team record set last year of 126 strikeouts in a single season. He season total is now 135 with at least two more anticipated starts this year.

Moore (12-3) lost for the first time since June 19 and in 11 starts. He fell into trouble early by allowing the bases loaded in the first inning before retiring a batter. Curt Smith knocked in the first run for Lincoln with an RBI groundout, and Jorge Cortes followed with a two-run double for a 3-0 early lead.

Moore was also victim of little run support, as the Pheasants' bats mustered just four hits against Lincoln starter Alessandro Maestri (7-6). Maestri tossed the first complete game of his career with with two walks and three strikeouts over nine innings.

Mark Shorey drove home the Pheasants' first run in the fourth inning with a double that plated Joe Anthonsen. Shorey, the Pheasants' cleanup hitter, has collected at least one RBI in five straight games.

Lincoln increased their advantage to 6-1 with three runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Kurt Steinhauer's RBI double.

Matt Powell collected his first RBI in a Sioux Falls uniform with a double in the seventh inning, cutting Lincoln's lead to 6-2.

Pat Trettel pushed Lincoln's margin to 7-2 with a solo home run in the seventh. He homered for the second straight game.

Gus Milner collected an eighth-inning single, stretching a season-best hitting streak to 15 games.

The Pheasants lost their fourth straight game and dropped their record to 40-47.
