Fargo-Moorhead 5, Sioux City 2
Fargo-Moorhead 3B C.J. Retherford batted in three runs to help lead the RedHawks to a 5-2 win against the Sioux City Explorers. Retherford hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third and hit a two-RBI single in the bottom of the fifth which extended the RedHawks' lead to 4-0. Also for Fargo-Moorhead, DH Kyle Nichols went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, and RF Michael Coles went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. RedHawks starting pitcher Trevor Longfellow pitched seven scoreless innings to earn the win, scattering five hits and fanning six hitters. Donnie Smith walked two batters but still worked a scoreless ninth to earn the save for the RedHawks. Explorers DH Ray Serrano hit a two-run homer in a losing effort.
Lincoln 7, Sioux Falls 2
The Lincoln Saltdogs plated three runs in the first inning and tacked on three more in the bottom of the sixth en route to a 7-2 win over the Sioux Falls Pheasants. Lincoln RF Jorge Cortes hit a two-RBI double in the bottom of the first and finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate. Saltdogs C Pat Trettel hit a solo home run, 1B Phil Hawke went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and CF Kurt Steinhauer went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Saltdogs starting pitcher Alessandro Maestri pitched a complete game and earned the win. Maestri conceded just two runs on four hits while fanning three hitters. Although Pheasants starting pitcher Ben Moore earned the loss, he struck out 10 batters and surpassed his own league and team record of 126 strikeouts in a season. Moore's season strikeout total is now at 135 and counting.
Winnipeg 7, St. Paul 4
Winnipeg erased an early 3-0 deficit with a three-run second inning as the Goldeyes outlasted the St. Paul Saints to earn a 7-4 win. St. Paul DH Ole Sheldon hit a solo home run in the top of the first, and 1B Richard Mercado and 3B Ronnie Bourquin hit back-to-back solo homers in the top of the second to give the Saints a 3-0 lead. Winnipeg equalized with three runs in the bottom of the second and then plated one run in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh frames to take a 7-4 lead. Goldeyes 2B Price Kendall had two RBIs and went 3-for-5 with a double, and 3B Louis Ott batted in two runs, scored two runs and hit a triple in the game. Also for Winnipeg, C Luis Alen went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Goldeyes starting pitcher Luis Villarreal conceded four runs on six hits in 5.2 innings pitched to earn the win, and Jamie Vermilyea worked a scoreless ninth to earn the save.
Wichita 6, Kansas City 5
The Wichita Wingnuts scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to overcome a 5-2 deficit and defeat the Kansas City T-Bones 6-5. Wingnuts SS Josh Horn went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, and 3B Juan Richardson hit an RBI double and scored a run. Also for Wichita, LF Mike Conroy went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and two runs scored. Wingnuts reliever Kendy Batista allowed one run on one hit in two innings pitched and was credited with the win, and Josh Dew worked a scoreless ninth to earn the save for Wichita. For the T-Bones, SS Jose Duran had two RBIs in a losing effort.
Fort Worth 11, Grand Prairie 6
The visiting Fort Worth Cats plated five runs in the seventh inning as they defeated the Grand Prairie AirHogs by a score of 11-6. Cats RF Marcos Rodriguez collected three RBIs, scored two runs and went 3-for-6 at the plate with a double. Cats C Kelley Gulledge went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and a run scored, and SS Cory Morales went 3-for-6 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Fort Worth starting pitcher Daniel Schmidt worked 5.2 innings and allowed three runs on eight hits to earn the win. For the AirHogs, 1B Joey Gomes and DH John Alonso each homered and batted in two runs in the loss.
Shreveport-Bossier 11, Gary SouthShore 9
The Shreveport-Bossier Captains scored seven total runs in the fifth and sixth inning to take an 11-9 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Captains 1B Andres Rodriguez had four RBIs in the game and went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two doubles. Also for the Captains, LF Chad Gabriel batted in two runs and scored three times, and C Brian Peterson homered. Captains starting pitcher Robert Bono earned the win and allowed three earned runs on six hits in five innings pitched. Hector Carrasco worked the final 1.1 innings to earn the save for the Captains. RailCats CF Mike Massaro had four RBIs in a losing effort.
Amarillo at El Paso (Game in Progress)
The game between Amarillo and El Paso is still in progress with El Paso leading 10-7 in the bottom of the 8th inning.
