RedHawks Sweep Sounds with 9-1 Win

Oklahoma City - Jonathan Villar celebrated his 22nd birthday by going 4-for-4 and notching five RBI for the Oklahoma City RedHawks Thursday in a 9-1 win against the Nashville Sounds in front of a crowd of 3,112 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The win gave the RedHawks (17-10) their first series sweep of the season and extended their winning streak to seven games on an unseasonably cold night in downtown Oklahoma City.

Nashville fell to 7-18, losing a sixth-straight game. The temperature at first pitch was 46 degrees, and a stiff wind from the north sent the wind chill down into the mid-30s as the RedHawks concluded an eight-game homestand.

Villar hit a home run, a double and two singles and also scored three runs to pace Oklahoma City. Jimmy Paredes extended his team-leading hit total to 38 with three hits Thursday.

RedHawks reliever Josh Zeid (2-0) held Nashville without a hit and run in two innings pitched for the win. Oklahoma City starter Asher Wojciechowski threw four innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out five in his Triple-A debut.

Nashville scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning. Stephen Parker reached on a fielder's choice by Brett Wallace and Hunter Morris, who tripled to get on base, scored for a 1-0 lead.

Oklahoma City took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. Villar doubled on a ground ball to left, scoring Marc Krauss and Wallace with no outs. A balk later scored Villar to put the RedHawks in front, 3-1.

The RedHawks got out of a bases loaded jam with no outs in the top of the fifth inning. Khris Davis grounded into a force out and Ozzie Chavez was out at home for the first out of the inning. Hunter Morris then grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Elmore and Paredes hit back-to-back triples in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. Villar homered in the sixth inning on a fly ball to right field to put Oklahoma City ahead, 5-1. He later hit a two-RBI single in the seventh for a 7-1 OKC lead. A two-RBI single by Carlos Perez put the RedHawks in front, 9-1.

Nashville starter Zach Kroenke (0-4) allowed four runs on six hits, walked three and struck out two.
