Today's Game: The RedHawks look for their first series sweep when they play the Nashville Sounds and close an eight-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. The current six-game win streak is their longest since Aug. 26-31, 2012. Only Tacoma is in the midst of a longer winning streak (eight games).
Last Game: The RedHawks hit a season-high five doubles, including four in the third inning, in a 6-2 win against Nashville Wednesday night. The RedHawks held the Sounds to three hits, led by a strong outing from starting pitcher Wes Musick. Musick improved to 2-0, pitching six innings, allowing two hits, one run and striking out four in the win. Oklahoma City took a 4-0 lead in the third inning on four RBI doubles from Che-Hsuan Lin, Carlos Perez, Jake Elmore and Brett Wallace. Wallace singled to score Marc Krauss and Jonathan Villar added a RBI double in the fifth inning.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Asher Wojciechowski makes his Triple-A and team debut...He exits Double-A Corpus Christi with a 2.08 ERA and 2-1 record with one save over six appearances (three starts)...He allowed one hit in each of his first two outings of the season and opened up his 2013 campaign with 20 consecutive scoreless innings...Wojciehchowski ranked eighth in the Texas League in ERA, fifth in opponent average (.189) and fifth in WHIP (0.92)...He also struck out 27 batters in 26 innings pitched...Wojciechowski and tandem pitching mate David Martinez combined on two shutouts...Earlier today he was named Corpus Christi's Pitcher of the Month for April by the Astros.
Against the Sounds: 2013: 5-1 2012: 13-3 All-time: 132-114 In OKC: 71-52
The two teams end a four-game series today in downtown Oklahoma City...The RedHawks won two of three in a rain-shortened, three-game series in Nashville earlier this season...It was a low-scoring series, with the two teams putting up 13 runs combined (OKC-8, NAS-5)...The RedHawks hit .204 while the Sounds were held to a .189 team average...The RedHawks have won five straight overall and each of the last eight games at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...In 2012 the RedHawks dominated the season series, winning 13 of 16 games, including seven of eight in Oklahoma City...The RedHawks pitching staff posted an outstanding 2.67 ERA...OKC has claimed the season series in four of the last five years.
Breathing Room: Wednesday marked the first time in six meetings this season that a game between the RedHawks and Sounds was decided by more than two runs. The first five games of the season between the teams and 11 of their 16 meetings of 2012 were decided by two runs or less. The last game settled by as many as four runs was a 10-6 OKC win on June 19, 2012 (10 games ago).
Today's Transactions: RedHawks pitchers Jordan Lyles and Dallas Keuchel have both been recalled by Houston. Lyles will start for the Astros at home tonight against the Detroit Tigers. Only Wojciechowski was added to the RedHawks, meaning the active roster stands at 24 players for the time being.
Home Becoming Sweet: After starting the season with a 2-5 record at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, the RedHawks have won seven of their last eight games in OKC. The RedHawks are now tied with the third-best home record in the league this season at 9-6.
Swipe Out: Trevor Crowe grabbed his team-leading 10th stolen base of the season as the RedHawks added three stolen bases to their league-leading season total Wednesday. Crowe is tied for the second-most stolen bases in the PCL. As a team, Oklahoma City has 38 stolen bases this season, including 18 over the last five games. In April, the RedHawks had 35 stolen bases, which is the most they have had in one month since July 2011 (41).
Top of the Line: Since moving into the leadoff spot of the lineup, Trevor Crowe is hitting .429 (9-for-21) with four RBI and a .556 on-base percentage. The RedHawks are 6-0 when Crowe leads off.
On the Marc: Marc Krauss has hit safely in 15 of 16 games in Oklahoma City, batting at a .396 clip with four homers and 20 RBI. His 25 RBI are seventh in the PCL and ranks tied first among Astros minor leaguers. Earlier today he was named RedHawks Player of the Month for April by the Astros after hitting .333/6/25 during the season's opening month.
Cosart Also Honored: Jarred Cosart was named RedHawks April Pitcher of the Month by the Astros. He went 3-0 with a 2.63 ERA, led the team with 29 strikeouts, and held opponents to a .190 batting average.
Valiant Villar: After getting off to a 2-for-34 start, Jonathan Villar is hitting .403 (27x67) over his last 16 games. He's hit safely in 14 of the games, including his last seven straight. Despite not having a multi-hit game until the 11th game of the season, he is now tied for the team lead with Jimmy Paredes with 11. During this stretch he has collected all 12 of his RBI and all 10 of his extra-base hits for the season.
Paredes Patiently Popping Off: Jimmy Paredes is 13-for-30 (.433) during his current eight-game hit streak and has collected at least two hits four times. Paredes leads the team with 35 hits and 11 multi-hit games. Paredes' walk total now stands at 13, over half of what he had for all of 2012 (22). He didn't draw his 11th walk last season until July 5. This season Paredes has four multi-walk games, something he never did in 124 contests last year.
