Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers rallied late to top the Tucson Padres 4-2 and stretch the team's season-high winning streak to eight games at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday night.

Tacoma trailed 2-1 until posting a two-run inning in the bottom seventh. Outfielder Denny Almonte doubled a line drive to left field that cleared the way for Carlos Triunfel and Scott Savastano to score and put the Rainiers on top for good.

The eight-game winning streak is the Rainiers longest since stringing together wins in nine consecutive games from June 29-July 8, 2010. Tacoma is now seven games over .500 for the first time since August 8th of that same season.

Triunfel, Savastano and Carlos Peguero each turned in two-hit games on Wednesday, leading a lineup that combined to collect nine hits. Nick Franklin singled in the bottom of the eighth and ended the night 1-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.

Reliever Jhonny Nunez (2-1) picked up the win after holding the Padres to two hits over 2.0 scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth. Left-hander Bobby LaFromboise worked a shutout frame in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

Reigning Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week Andrew Carraway surrendered two runs on five hits and struck out six over 6.0 innings in his team-leading sixth start this season.

The Rainiers (17-10) look to snag a series sweep and stretch their winning streak to nine games in the club's finale with Tucson scheduled for 7 p.m. tomorrow, May 2. Right-hander Jeremy Bonderman (1-2, 4.61) is slated to start for Tacoma against right-hander Sean O'Sullivan (1-1, 5.00) for the Padres.
