RedHawks Sweep Saltdogs for Eighth Straight Series Win

FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (36-18) capped off their season long nine-game home stand the same way they started it, with a victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs (25-29). Brian Olson went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI to help the RedHawks to a 5-3 win over the Saltdogs Saturday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field. The RedHawks went 7-2 record during the home stand, scoring 61 total runs in the process while giving up only 37 runs against.
The Saltdogs got on the board in the second inning with a 2-RBI single courtesy of Daniel Herrera that gave Lincoln its first lead of the series. The RedHawks answered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Brian Olson got his first RBI of the game, driving in Correlle Prime to cut the Saltdogs lead in half. Brian Olson got his second RBI of the game in the fourth inning, driving in Chris Jacobs and tying the game at two with an RBI single.
The 'Dogs managed to retake the lead in the fifth inning when former RedHawks third baseman Josh Mazzola drove in Forrestt Allday from second base on a single. The RedHawks tied the game again a half inning later when current RedHawks third baseman Leo Pina extended his hitting streak to 17 games, the second-longest such streak in the American Association this season.
Yhoxian Medina grounded into a double play in the sixth inning, which allowed T.J. Bennett to score from third base, putting F-M on top 4-3. Leo Pina notched his second RBI of the game in the seventh to give the RedHawks' bullpen an insurance run. The 5-3 scoreline would hold to the end of the game, and the RedHawks improved to 36-18.
RedHawks' starting pitcher Ryan Williams improved to 4-0 and tossed six innings in today's victory, allowing three runs on nine hits and two strikeouts. Williams, as well as the Fargo-Moorhead bullpen, did not issue a walk all game. Closer Geoff Broussard secured his 15th save of the season by finishing off the Saltdogs in order in the ninth. He ranks second in the American Association in the category.
The RedHawks will have an off day tomorrow before heading to Gary for a four-game series with the Railcats (21-30). First pitch for the Monday night opener is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
