Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (38-49) overpowered the Sioux City Explorers (45-42) 14-5 for their fourth straight win on Tuesday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.
The RedHawks offense had a huge night at the plate compiling four home runs, 10 walks, 18 hits, and 14 runs. Every RedHawks starter had at least one hit in the game and all but two walked as well. Nonetheless, the number on the mind of the 3,821 fans in attendance was 65, which is what Jesse Hoorelbeke set the all-time RedHawks home run record at with his 15th home run of the year and fifth in the last eight games.
Six of the RedHawks' runs (all earned) and eleven hits came against Explorers' ace, Nick Schumacher. Schumacher entered the game second in the league in ERA and strikeouts, but the RedHawks got to him early and often.
Zach Penprase and C.J. Retherford started the game with back-to-back home runs. The RedHawks put up three more runs in the third inning and another in the fifth inning to chase Schumacher. Andrew Snowdon, the next Sioux City pitcher, fared even worse. Snowdon was tagged for five hits and six runs in his only inning of work.
It was in the eighth inning though that the crowd roared the loudest. Hoorelbeke hit a two-run home run to left field for number 65 and Newman Outdoor Field erupted. Hoorelbeke finished the night 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Schumacher received the loss for the Explorers, his fifth of the season. Jack Frawley picked up his first win as a RedHawk and fourth on the season. Frawley allowed all five Sioux City runs (all earned) on ten hits in 5.1 innings.
The bottom three batters in the Explorers lineup had six of their 13 hits and combined for four of their five runs. Ryan Priddy was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
The RedHawks will take on the Sioux City Explorers in the second game of their three-game series on Wednesday night. Game time is 7:02 pm. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 701-235-6161, online at www.fmredhawks.com, or at the Ticket Office during business hours.
