Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 3-2 to the Kansas City T-Bones at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Tuesday night.
Wichita was four outs away from securing a win when Jim Fasano hit a two-out, two-run home run over the right-center field fence against Geivy Garcia to provide the game's final margin. Justin Snyder reached on a bloop double with one out to start the rally. Garcia retired Ray Sadler on a line drive to short before allowing the home run.
Wichita loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth when Kansas City brought in closer Kyle Dahman for a five-out save. Dahman induced a groundball to first from Josh Workman that Fasano gloved and fired home to earn a force on Juan Richardson. With the bases still loaded, Edwin Bellorin hit a sharp groundball towards the hole on the right side that was grabbed by a diving Justin Snyder. Snyder tossed to first to end the inning and prevent the Wingnuts from tying the game.
Jimmy Mojica doubled down the right field line with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but Dahman struck out Josh Horn and retired Richardson on a groundout to third to end the game and convert the save.
Kansas City struck first against Wingnuts' starter Junior Guerra. Keanon Simon led off the game with a walk and scored from first on Jose Duran's double to deep center field.
Guerra settled in after the first and finished the night with a no-decision. Guerra allowed one earned run on just three hits, walking six, and striking out seven.
Richardson tied the game at 1-1 with a two-out, RBI single through the right side that scored Mojica.
In the bottom of the seventh, Workman led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice from Bellorin. Mike Conroy reached on an error charged to Jeff Hulett, allowing Workman to advance to third. After falling behind 0-2, Mojica drove a flyball to right for a sacrifice fly that scored Workman with the go-ahead run.
Drew Graham was the winning pitcher in relief for Kansas City, allowing one unearned run in one and one-third innings.
Devin Anderson started and took a no-decision for the T-Bones, allowing one earned run on six hits in six innings. Anderson walked three and struck out five.
Carlos Rivera's hitting streak was snapped at nine games. The Wingnuts left 10 runners on base in the loss and had three runners caught stealing.
The Wingnuts and T-Bones continue their series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Marcos Tabata makes a spot start against T-Bones' righty T.J. Large. For tickets, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS or visit the Wingnuts' official website at www.wichitawingnuts.com.
