Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
SHREVEPORT, LA -The Shreveport-Bossier Captains, presented by U-Auto Pull-It Auto Parts, and the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana partnered earlier this year to form Project: "Strike Out Hunger". The idea behind this venture has multiple spokes that includes generating some much needed food donations during the summer but also, to create awareness and stimulate knowledge within the community.
The first of two events took place on Tuesday, July 26 which was very successful in gaining ground on hunger in the Shreveport-Bossier and surrounding communities, when fans and local grocers made donations nearing 1,000 cans of food. The Shreveport-Bossier Captains and the Food Bank of NWLA continue their partnership to the second leg of this program with another food drive on Tuesday, August 23.
Just like in July, fans who donate a minimum of 6 cans of food and/or non-perishable food items will receive a free reserved ticket to that night's game. Fans who donate 10 or more cans of food and/or non-perishable food items will receive a free an additional free reserved ticket valid for any of the Captains' remaining three 2011 regular season home games.
As the Captains quickly approach their off-season the club wants to do all they can to ensure the food bank receives as much help as possible during their off-season. Captains' general manager Chet Carey was extremely pleased with the results of the first drive and hopes the second event provides even more results.
"The July food drive went well and it is our hope that our fans will be just as giving this time around", Carey said. "There are a number of reasons as to why people in our community go hungry every day but there is no reason for why we (Captains) can't help do our part to minimize hunger within our community."
The Captains are currently in Gary Indiana on a six-game road trip that concludes tomorrow night and after a scheduled off day, the Captains return home Friday, August 19 to begin the final eight-games of the regular season home schedule. Single-game tickets are available for purchase in-person or over the phone by visiting the Captains Executive Offices at 2901 Pershing Boulevard at Fair Grounds Field or by calling (318) 636-5555. VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express accepted.
