
RedHawks Sign Renz & Thompson

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead have acquired INF Anthony Renz from the Las Vegas (N.M.) Train Robbers of the Pecos League and signed RHP Tyler Thompson to contract. Both players have been signed and will be activated ahead of tonight's game against the Gary SouthShore RailCats at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Ind.
Renz appeared in 15 games for Las Vegas in the Pecos League, where he batted .383 with five doubles, three home runs, 14 RBIs and 14 runs scored in 15 games. He hit safely in 13 of 15 games, and recorded nine multi-hit games for the Train Robbers.
Renz played college baseball at Mansfield University (PA), where he completed his eligibility this spring. In 40 games, Renz batted .357 with 14 doubles, eight home runs, 37 RBIs and 24 runs scored. He was named to both the All-PSAC East and All-Region teams for Mansfield, a NCAA Division II school. In his four year career, Renz batted .304 with 31 doubles, 19 home runs, 101 RBIs and 75 runs scored in 170 games.
Thompson recently completed his college career at West Virginia State University where he was 10-2 with a 1.77 ERA in 14 starts for the Yellow Jackets this spring. Thompson pitched 81.1 inning and allowed 19 runs (16 earned) on 69 hits. He struck out 82 batters and walked 16.
In his three-year career at West Virginia State, a NCAA Division II school in Beckley, W.V., Thompson was 25-6 with a 2.12 ERA. He pitched 203.2 innings and allowed 177 hits while striking out 221 batters. He was a part of two conference championship teams.
In other recent transactions, the RedHawks have placed RHP Evan Englebrook on the 7-day disabled list retroactive to June 22 and C Charlie Valerio on the 7-day disabled list retroactive to June 29 and placed INF Tyler Doughty and LHP Mike Mason on the American Association 30-day Inactive List.
