OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City RedHawks and Mercy have teamed up for Cooper's Healthy Hawks, a new initiative to promote healthy habits and physical fitness for children, featuring the RedHawks' mascot, Cooper.

""Much of our state's struggle with obesity and the health problems it leads to are rooted in our sedentary culture," said Di Smalley, Mercy regional president. "By instilling a love for an active lifestyle in our youngest Oklahomans, we're helping them toward a lifetime of less health problems, less health costs and - ultimately - more happiness. Mercy is thrilled to join the RedHawks in launching this program."

The program has started and runs through the rest of the season. Kids 13 and under can sign up by visiting okcredhawks.com. Each of Cooper's Healthy Hawks will receive a gift pack including a t-shirt, sweat band, jump rope, water bottle, drawstring bag, and two tickets to the RedHawks game Saturday, Sept. 1 against the Round Rock Express-a $98 value. Membership costs only $9.99.

Members will be invited to Cooper's Healthy Hawks Day on Sept. 1 where they will have the chance to meet RedHawks players and interact with Cooper.

"We appreciate how Mercy is dedicated to making a positive impact in the community," RedHawks President & General Manager Michael Byrnes said. "We are proud to collaborate with Mercy to make sure kids in Oklahoma City are staying active and know how to make healthy choices."

As part of the collaboration, RedHawks Strength & Conditioning Coach Gary McCoy and pitcher Sergio Perez will joined Cooper at Stone Ridge Elementary in Yukon on May 10 and at Lake Park Elementary in Bethany on May 11 to teach students about fitness and nutrition.
