
Zephyrs Lose 9-7 in Shootout in Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - The Zephyrs opened up a eight game road-trip on Thursday afternoon with a season high 17 hits but fell to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 9-7. The Sox scored four runs on five hits with the first 11 pitches of the game off of Zephyr starter J.D. Martin to take a quick 4-0 lead. The Zephyrs scored a run in the second, two runs in the third and fourth innings to take the lead. Chris Coghlan led the team with three hits in four at bats. Clint Sammons homered for New Orleans and Mike Cervenak and Gil Velazquez each picked up 2RBI. A four run sixth inning by the Sky Sox erased the Zephyrs lead. Martin allowed 7 runs on 11 hits in the defeat. Former LSU Tiger D.J. LeMahieu had three hits and three RBI, including the go-ahead double in the sixth inning for the Sox. The Sky Sox pounded out 16 hits and won for the fourth time in five games.
Game Notes - The Zephyrs added outfielder Kevin Mattison from the Marlins, Mattison had two hits and scored a pair of runs. The 17 hits matched the highest output of the season for the Z's, April 16th at Nashville.
