TONIGHT: The RedHawks and Iowa Cubs continue a 9-game head-to-head stretch with the opener of a 5-game, 4-day series in Des Moines. OKC earned a split in the series that ended yesterday at The Brick with a 17-6 win. All 9 RedHawks collected hits and 8 of 9 had an RBI. The RedHawks scored in each of the first 5 innings, including an 8-run fourth, and tacked on one more in the seventh. The RedHawks lead Albuquerque by 3.5 in the American South. Iowa and Nashville are tied atop the American North, 1.5 games up on Memphis and Omaha. Omar Beltre gets the start for the RedHawks against Thomas Diamond.
SEASON HIGHS SET IN 17-6 SUNDAY WIN: The RedHawks set season highs in runs and hits (20) in a 17-6 win yesterday. OKC broke it open with an 8-run fourth inning, which matched an 8-run 12th inning at Omaha June 6 as a season high. The previous high run total was 15 a week earlier, July 11, at Round Rock in a 15-2 win. The previous high in hits was also achieved at Round Rock in the series before the All-Star break when the RedHawks totaled 19 in a 12-inning game, winning 7-6. The 17 runs against Iowa were the most scored by OKC since the team moved to the PCL 1998 and became known as the RedHawks. The previous high run count against the Cubs came in a 14-10 win at Principal Park on May 31, 2004.
NO HOMERS NECESSARY: OKC did not hit a homer while compiling 17 runs yesterday. The RedHawks have homered in 10 of their last 12 games, totaling 16 homers in than span. The RedHawks are 39-19 when homering in a game and 12-22 when held without one.
TAKE YOUR BASE: These teams combined for 44 walks in the 4 games at The Brick. Yesterday, OKC drew 8 walks while Iowa drew 5.
PULL UP A CHAIR: Each of the last 2 games between these teams has lasted 3 hours, 25 minutes. Nine of the last 12 OKC games have taken 3:07 or longer, including 3 extra-inning games: July 15, (3:49, 10 innings); July 7, Game 2, (4:15, 13 innings); and July 8 (4:38, 12 innings).
ERROR UPDATE: The RedHawks have made 31 errors in the past 27 games after committing 1 yesterday. Matt Brown's seventh-inning throwing error contributed to an unearned run, snapping a stretch of 4 games without an unearned run allowed. The RedHawks' last set of consecutive back-to-back errorless games was a doubleheader sweep of New Orleans on June 16. When making an error, OKC is 26-30. When errorless, the RedHawks are 25-11.
SCORING EARLY MEANINGLESS?: The team that scored first during the 4-game series in Oklahoma City lost 3 of the 4 contests. The only team to score first and win was Iowa in a 4-0 win on Friday. OKC has allowed the first run in 12 of the last 15 games, going 8-7 in that time. OKC is 26-13 when scoring first and 25-28 when allowing the first run.
KIRKMAN WINS NINTH: Michael Kirkman earned his team-leading ninth win yesterday by tossing 7 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) in the first quality start and starting pitcher victory since his previous outing July 9 at Round Rock. Kirkman has 8 of OKC's 33 quality starts and 9 of the starting staff's 27 wins. The RedHawks have won 15 of Kirkman's 18 starts.
ERA NO. 1: The RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.70. Nashville is second at 3.75. The RedHawks have the best run differential in the league at +102.

Guilder Rodriguez was promoted from Double-A Frisco and has hit safely in both games since the promotion, his first to Triple-A. Rodriguez scored 4 runs yesterday, matching the most by RedHawk this season. Chad Tracy (June 27 vs. Omaha) and German (May 11 vs. Sacramento) also scored 4 times in a game.
