Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Rockies announced today that All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will begin a rehabilitation assignment with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Wednesday, July 21. Tulowitzki, 25, is scheduled to play for the Sky Sox against the Sacramento River Cats (Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland A's) in the team's 7:05 PM start at Security Service Field. He is also scheduled to play on Thursday, July 22 in the team's 12:35 PM game. Tulowitzki was placed on the disabled list on June 18 with a fractured left wrist after being hit by a pitch.
In light of Tulowitzki's rehab assignment, on Wednesday, the Sky Sox will be opening the gates at 4:00 PM so that fans can watch the Sky Sox take batting practice. Gates will open at the normal time, an hour before game time, on Thursday at 11:35 AM.
The Santa Clara, CA native will be making his second appearance as a member of the Sky Sox. The talented young infielder originally skipped the Triple-A Sky Sox all together in 2007 when he won the starting shortstop job with the Rockies. He went on hit .291 (177-for-609) with 24 homers and 99 RBIs as he finished second in the National Rookie of the Year Award and helped the Rockies reach their first ever World Series. This year, despite his injury, he was named to the National All-Star team but did not participate.
In 2008, Tulowitzki suffered a left quadriceps tendon tear and rehabbed with the Sky Sox in June of that year. During that two game stint, Tulowitzki hit .429 (3-for-7) with a double, two runs scored and a RBI.
