Nashville is atop the American North by 2 games over Iowa and Memphis. Righthander Guillermo Moscoso will get the start for the RedHawks. Moscoso has not faced the Sounds in his brief Triple-A career. Lefty Chris Waters gets the ball for Nashville. It will be Waters' first career outing against OKC.
WALKING TOUR: OKC and Nashville's pitching staffs each set season highs last night in walks, with the RedHawks issuing 8 and the Sounds 7 in OKC's 8-6 win. The walks set the pace for OKC's longest 9-inning game of the year at 3 hours, 15 minutes. Six of the 9 OKC starters drew at least 1 walk.
SALTALAMACCHIA DEBUTS: Texas Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia made his first rehab appearance last night, starting behind the plate and catching 5 innings. He went 0-for-1 with a strikeout and 2 walks, with 1 run scored. Saltalamacchia is expected to serve as the designated hitter today. Texas' opening-day catcher, Saltalamacchia went on the 15-day DL April 8 with a left upper back strain. Last season, Saltalamacchia experienced shoulder problems in early August and started only four games after Aug. 4, eventually undergoing surgery for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Sept. 21. More information on him can be found on page 5 of today's notes.
TEAM RANKINGS: OKC's 3.05 team ERA is third in the league behind Colorado Springs (2.90) and Sacramento (3.00). The RedHawks share the league lead with 2 shutouts. Last night's 8-run total was a season high for OKC.
MORELAND WITH THE ASSIST: RedHawks right fielder Mitch Moreland leads the PCL with 4 outfield assists. He has thrown out a runner trying to advance to third in a fly out in 2 straight games, last night eliminating Erick Almonte to complete a 9-5 double play. Moreland, a former closer at Mississippi State, has 3 assists in the past 5 games.
HOLLAND THE PITCHER OF WEEK: OKC lefty Derek Holland is the PCL's first Pitcher of the Week. Holland has won his last 2 starts with scoreless performances, most recently Sunday. Holland has not allowed a run in 14.2 consecutive innings dating to a solo homer by Albuquerque's Michael Restovich on April, 8, which remains Holland's only run allowed in 19.2 innings this season.
