MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis won their third straight game with a 6-5 win over Iowa Wednesday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
The Redbirds and Cubs battled back and forth until the sixth inning when Memphis sent 10 men to the plate and scored four runs to take control of the game. Daniel Descalso's leadoff double started the rally and a pair of bases loaded walks capped the rally. The 'Birds scored four runs on two hits in the eighth and drew four walks to claim a 6-4 lead. Iowa's Brad Snyder cut the lead to one run in the seventh with his second home run of the day. Snyder finished the day 4-for-5 with 11 total bases and three RBI. Daniel Descalso led the Redbirds with two hits and two runs scored.
Tyler Norrick earned the win in relief for the 'Birds giving up two runs on two hits in two innings of work. Iowa starter Casey Coleman took the loss allowing six runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings. Fernando Salas pitched around a Snyder double in the ninth to pick up his first save of the year. Memphis starter Trey Hearne allowed two runs on three hits in four innings in his season debut.
The Redbirds and I-Cubs play tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. It will be Earth Day at AutoZone Park presented by Waste Management and MLGW. The first 1500 fans through the gates will receive water bottles from Waste Management and fans leaving the game will receive light bulbs compliments of MLGW.
