Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers are set to welcome Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Cliff Lee to Cheney Stadium in a rehab start scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 25, at 1:30 p.m.

The start will mark the 2008 Cy Young Award winner's first in the Northwest since being acquired by the Mariners in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies on December 16, 2009. The Mariners received Lee in exchange for outfielder Tyson Gillies and pitchers Phillippe Aumont and J.C. Ramirez.

Lee, 31, was diagnosed with a right lower abdominal strain while at Mariners spring training and was placed on the team's 15-day disabled list on April 4, retroactive to March 26.

Through five starts with the Phillies in the 2009 Postseason, Lee went 4-0 with a 1.56 ERA and two complete games, including a 2-0 mark and 2.81 ERA over two starts in the World Series. The left-hander became just the second pitcher in World Series history to record double-digit strikeouts without issuing a walk following a complete-game victory over the New York Yankees in Game 1.

Over a combined eight major league seasons with the Phillies and Cleveland Indians, Lee has a career record of 90-52 with a 3.97 ERA. He has recorded at least 10 wins in five of his last six seasons and has combined to go 36-16 with a 2.89 ERA over 65 starts in '08 and '09.
