Isotopes Best Zephyrs Again, 6-1

The New Orleans Zephyrs dropped their second game in as many days to the Albuquerque Isotopes, losing 6-1 on Wednesday night at Zephyr Field.

The Isotopes jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, but the Z's would follow suit in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own. Albuquerque then added another run in the top of the fourth to regain a two-run lead.

The ‘Topes broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning against Z's starter Hunter Jones. Isotopes catcher Lucas May launched his second home run of the year, a three-run shot to deep left-center field. Xavier Paul finished with three hits, one of five Isotopes to record a multi-hit game as Albuquerque banged out 14 hits, including six doubles.

Jones took the loss, pitching five innings and allowing six runs on 11 hits, while striking out two and walking one.

Zephyrs right fielder Scott Cousins went 2-for-3 with a triple, while plating the lone for New Orleans. Albuquerque starter John Ely pitched 6.1 innings, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out five. The Isotopes bullpen combined for 2.2 innings, surrendering just one walk and striking out three.

The teams will meet again tomorrow night for game three of the four-game tilt.
