Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Jeff Howell's one-out single through a drawn-in infield in the top of the 11th scored David Lough and gave the Omaha Royals a 5-4 victory over the Round Rock Express in Wednesday night's Pacific Coast League action at The Dell Diamond. It was the third consecutive extra-inning game for the Express (4-10), who fell to 2-2 in extra-inning games and 2-5 in one-run games this season. The Royals (6-8) evened the series 1-1 with the win.
Lough opened the 11th with a single to left-center and moved to second on a Jordan Parraz sacrifice bunt. After a wild pitch moved Lough to third, the Express optioned to intentionally walk the left-handed Buck Coats. Howell, right-handed, followed with a sharp grounder up the middle on Roy Corcoran's 1-2 offering that scored Lough. Round Rock second baseman Drew Meyer dove and clipped the ball with his glove but could not keep it from getting through the infield.
Blake Wood (1-0) pitched a perfect bottom of the 11th to earn the victory; he allowed one hit in 2.0 scoreless innings with one strikeout. Wood was assisted in the 10th by an inning-ending, line-drive double play that erased Drew Locke's one-out single. Starter Brad Thompson left the game after 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout.
Corcoran (0-4) was saddled with the loss after allowing one run on two hits and a walk with one strikeout over 3.0 innings. Starter Polin Trinidad worked 5.2 innings and surrendered two runs on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
Round Rock grabbed the game's first lead in the fourth when Matt Kata scored Locke on a two-out RBI double. Omaha responded with a four-run sixth on just two hits. After Trinidad and reliever Jonah Bayliss combined to walk the bases loaded, Parraz laced a two-out, three-run double; Coats followed with an RBI single.
Locke cut the Express deficit to two runs in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI groundout. Round Rock tied the game in the seventh on consecutive two-out, bases-loaded walks by Jason Castro and Locke. However, the Express could not seize the opportunity to recapture the lead as Kata popped out to shortstop, ending the inning.
DeLome was 2-for-5 with a run scored, while Locke logged his first two RBI of the season. Castro walked twice and has drawn at least one walk in eight consecutive games.
Lough was 2-for-4 with two runs and a walk. Kila Ka'aihue was 2-for-5.
Round Rock and Omaha continue their four-game series Wednesday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Left-hander Wesley Wright (0-0, 4.00 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, opposite Omaha right-hander Anthony Lerew (1-1, 4.00 ERA).
