OMAHA, NE - For the eleventh consecutive season, Cox Communications is sponsoring Home Run for Youth Day at Rosenblatt Stadium. Nearly 10,000 students, staff and chaperones are receiving a ticket, courtesy of Cox, to attend the Royals game on Tuesday, April 27 at 11:05 a.m. vs. the Albuquerque Isotopes.
All K-12 students in Cox's service area have been invited to the game, with 46 schools signing up to attend. Cox Communications has also invited its community partner for the 2010 event, Northwest High School, to have representatives attend the game.
"Cox's Home Run for Youth Day has become a tradition for a number of local schools," said Kelly Sare, Cox Communications Community Relations Specialist. "It's not only a fun time - out of the classroom - for the students, but also an educational experience on America's favorite pastime.
Participating schools are provided with study guides so they can incorporate learning into the field trip if they choose to do so.
"We are excited that the partnership with Cox Communications is reaching so many students in the metro area," said Martie Cordaro, Royals Vice President/General Manager. "We hope that their day at the ballpark will continue on into the classroom and that the children and teachers will be able to use baseball as an educational tool."
Preceding the first pitch of the April 27 game, students from Neihardt Elementary will sing the National Anthem. Also, the Royals are providing a suite in the stadium's press box for a group of 12 students from Elkhorn to broadcast several innings of the game on elkhornsports.com.
