
Redbirds hammer Round Rock

MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis blanked Round Rock for the second straight game beating the Express 9-0 Friday night in front of 11,347 fans at AutoZone Park.
Three Memphis pitchers combined on the club's second straight three-hit shutout running the team's scoreless streak to 20 innings. Starter Evan MacLane earned the win with six stellar innings, giving up just two hits and fanning seven for his seventh win of the year. Jason Motte tossed two innings in his second rehab outing with Memphis throwing 27 pitches, 15 for strikes. Tyler Norrick finished off the game working around a single and a walk in the ninth.
The Redbirds offense started early, scoring two runs in the first inning on Nick Stavinoha's two-run double. Tyler Greene added a two-run homer in the second and the blowout was on. Ruben Gotay padded the lead in the sixth with a run-scoring double and Matt Pagnozzi knocked in two more runs with a single. Mark Hamilton's two-run single in the seventh capped the scoring. Hamilton, Greene, Stavinoha and Daniel Descalso all had two hits for the âBirds. Round Rock had just three hits for the second straight night.
Express starter Josh Banks was pegged with the loss allowing seven runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings.
With the win Memphis keeps pace with division-leading Iowa, who beat Omaha 9-8 Friday night, and moves two games ahead of the Royals for second place.
Memphis hosts Round Rock in the fourth game of their five-game series tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Tomorrow is also Fan Appreciation Night sponsored by Comcast.
