RH Doug Mathis (5-5, 5.31) vs. RH Tim Corcoran (7-8, 6.78)

TONIGHT: A 5-game series between the top 2 clubs in the American South continues with Game 3 between the RedHawks and Albuquerque Isotopes. The series is even at 1-1 after OKC's 8-1 win last night. The RedHawks amassed 15 hits after totaling 8 in the previous 2 games. Their hit total in last night's first inning (4) matched the game total for the previous two contests, both losses. The RedHawks lead the division by 5 games with 12 to play. OKC is 4-2 on this 9-game trip, their final road swing of the regular season. The RedHawks conclude the season with a 9-game, 8-day homestand starting on Monday.

MAGIC 8: The RedHawks lowered their magic number to 8 with last night's win and bumped the division lead to 5 with 12 games to play. The magic number has shrunk from 20 to 8 since Aug. 17. OKC and Albuquerque have each had a game cancelled with no makeup, so they will play 143 games barring further postponements.

BELTRE GOES 7 AGAIN: Righthander Omar Beltre turned in his third straight 7-inning quality start last night in the 8-1 win, allowing 1 run (in the first inning) on 5 hits with 7 strikeouts. Since being rested out of a possible start Aug. 9 at Colorado Springs, Beltre has gone 21 innings, allowing 16 hits and 5 earned runs, a 2.14 ERA. OKC has won all 3 games, although last night was his first decision in that span.

IRIBARREN GETS 2 MORE: Hernan Iribarren went 2-for-4 last night. He has hit safely in 19 of his last 21 games dating to Aug. 5, going 33-for-81 (.407) with 3 homers and 16 RBIs in that span. Since Aug. 5, Iribarren features the PCL's second-best batting average behind Iowa's Micah Hoffpauir (.417), who is currently on recall to Chicago. Iribarren has lifted his batting average from .240 to .272 in the last 21 games.

ALUMNI REPORT: All-Star lefthander Michael Kirkman, still third in the PCL in ERA (3.09) and second in wins (13), pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in relief for Texas last night and has yet to allow a run in 5 big league innings since his recall Aug. 20. Kirkman has allowed just 2 hits, both singles, in 3 Texas games. Justin Smoak, OKC's opening-day first baseman this season, hit one of Tacoma's 7 home runs last night in a losing cause, as Portland beat the Rainiers 17-12 in Tacoma. Tug Hulett, a 2007 RedHawk back for his second stint in the Mariners' organization, went 5-for-6 with a homer and 4 RBIs in last night's game for Tacoma.

PITCHING LEADERBOARD: The RedHawks maintain the PCL's best ERA at 3.85. They have allowed the fewest home runs (90) in either affiliated Triple-A league, 21 fewer than the closes PCL team, Tacoma.
