Rochester Red Wings News Release

TONIGHT'S GAME: After an off day on Wednesday, the first-place Red Wings resume their season-long homestand with the opener of a four-game set against the first-place Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) on Thursday night (7:05) at Frontier Field... After starting the homestand by going 3-1 against Louisville, Rochester is now 18-9 in their last 27 games, have won 31 of 46 and own the best record in the IL since May 27 with a 52-30 (.634) mark... Meanwhile, the Indians, who own the second-best record in the IL, will have a chance to clinch the IL South division while in town this weekend. They enter this series with a magic number of 4 over Columbus... However, Indianapolis has lost three straight, 5 of 6 and 11 of 19 in August entering play today.

FOR STARTERS:

¨Dean: The southpaw will be making his Frontier Field debut after making his first 3 AAA starts on road... 6-11, 4.68 in 22 GS at NBR

¨Taillon: Ranked the 2nd-best pitching prospect in the Pirates system (G. Cole)... Went 4-7, 3.67 in 20 G at Altoona this season

WITH A WIN TODAY, THE WINGS...:

¨Will top their win total from the 2012 season and assure themselves of a winning season for the first time since 2008 (74-70).

¨Will avoid losing two straight at Frontier Field for the first time since June 10-11 vs. TOL -- a span of 28 home games.

¨Will remain in sole possession of first-place for a 25th consecutive day (since 7/29)... A Wings loss and Pawtucket win would drop the Wings out of first place for the first time since July 26. The Wings have had at least a share of 1st for 26 straight days.

¨Will win their 7th series opener in their last 9 series and 17th of the season (16-22 in series openers so far in '13)... The Wings have yet to lose a series this season when winning the lid-lifter (10-0-6).

MAGIC NUMBER: The Red Wings magic number to clinch the Wild Card is 9 games over Norfolk. Meaning any combination of Wings wins and Tides losses that equal 9 will clinch a playoff spot for Rochester. The Wings own the season series tiebreaker over Norfolk if they were to finish with the same record... The Wings magic number to win the division over Pawtucket is 12 games.

THE FRIENDLY CONFINES OF FRONTIER FIELD: The Wings 5-1 loss to Louisville in their series finale on Tuesday was just their 2nd loss in their last 12 games at home... Still, Rochester is an impressive 22-6 at Frontier Field since June 13 and 38-24 (.613) overall on the season -- the 2nd-best home winning % in the IL (DUR .676)... Going back further, the Wings are 31-11 at home since May 16 and haven't lost back-to-back games at Frontier Field since June 10-11 vs TOL - a span of 28 home games... The Wings were just 7-13 in their first 20 games of the season at Frontier Field and on 3 separate occasions lost 3 in a row at home... Prior to going 39-33 at home last season, the Wings were just 94-122 (.435) in Rochester from 2009-2011.

GETTING RELIEF: Over the last 17 games, the Wings bullpen has posted a 3.26 ERA (21 ER/58.0 IP) while allowing just two runs (one earned) over the last 6 games (0.60 ERA; 15.0 ip, 11h, 1 bb, 12k)... However, if you take out Luis Perdomo's outings (16.88 ERA; 10 ER in 5.1 IP over last 5G), the bullpen's ERA is just 1.88 (11 ER/52.2 IP) over the last 17 G (Perdomo on DL with rt. calf strain).

¨Since June 24, RHP Shairon Martis has allowed just 4 R in 29.2 IP (1.21 ERA) w/ 7 SV over 16 appearances... Opponents are hitting just .130 (13-100) off him w/ 7 BB & 25 SO over that span.

¨LHP Edgar Ibarra has thrown 31.1 consecutive innings between NBR & ROC (14.1 IP) w/o allowing an ER -- a span of 26 G over which he has allowed just 1 R on 13 H and 8 BB w/ 27 SO... With ROC, Ibarra has allowed just 5 H (.111 avg) & 7 BB over 14.1 scoreless ip (11 G) -- the 3rd longest streak by a Wings pitcher this season and longest by a reliever.

BACK IN COMMAND: After an uncharacteristic 7-game stretch (8/3-8/9) in which Wings pitchers walked 40 batters (5.7 BB/G), Wings hurlers have regained command walking just 17 hitters over the last 10 games (1.7 BB/G)... The Wings have walked the least amount of hitters in the IL this season (401; 3.04 BB/G) while drawing the most walks in the league (522; 3.95 BB/G).

¨The Wings are pace to walk 569 times this season, the most since the 1991 team walked 617 times.
