Garcia Promoted to Chicago, Tekotte Optioned to Charlotte

Fort Mill, SC - Leury Garcia, who hit safely in six of his eight games with the Charlotte Knights this season, has been promoted to Chicago today, as announced by the White Sox. Garcia takes the roster spot of Blake Tekotte, who was optioned to the Knights.

Garcia becomes the 16th different Knight to earn a promotion to the White Sox this season. Other players who have gone from Charlotte to Chicago this year are: Deunte Heath, Tyler Greene, Jordan Danks, Blake Tekotte, Brian Omogrosso, Donnie Veal, Ramon Troncoso, Brent Morel, Simon Castro, David Purcey, Josh Phegley, Andre Rienzo, Avisail Garcia, Charlie Leesman, and Jake Petricka.

The 22-year-old made his Knights debut on August 14 in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and hit .267 (8-for-30) with three runs scored, one double, one RBI, and three stolen bases for Charlotte over eight games. Acquired by the White Sox in the trade that sent OF Alex Rios to the Texas Rangers on August 11, Garcia was ranked by Baseball America as the number 20 prospect in the Texas organization.

The Dominican native began the 2013 season with the Texas Rangers and made his Major League debut on April 6. He recorded his first Major League hit on April 13 in Seattle. In all, Garcia appeared in 25 games with the Rangers and hit .192 (10-for-52) with eight runs scored, one triple, three walks, and one stolen base. He also appeared in 47 games with Triple-A Round Rock and hit .264 (51-for-193) with 31 runs scored, eight doubles, four triples, four home runs, 19 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases.

Tekotte began the 2013 season on Charlotte's DL and was activated on April 19. Since then, the Columbia, MO native has appeared in 65 games with the Knights over three stints this season. The 26-year-old posted a .238 batting average (60-for-252) with 27 runs scored, 27 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 27 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases over that span.

With the White Sox, Tekotte hit .226 (7-for-31) with four runs scored, one double, one home run, two RBIs, and one stolen base in 20 games.

The Knights open a four-game series with the Syracuse Chiefs tonight in Syracuse, NY. First pitch of tonight's game is set for 7:00 p.m. Charlotte will return home on Wednesday, August 28 to open the final homestand in Knights Stadium history.
