GAME NOTES:

-THE LEAD: The Red Wings defense committed three errors that led to four unearned runs and the offense mustered just five hits as the Wings fell 6-1 to the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series at Frontier Field.

-With the loss and Pawtucket's 5-2 win over Scranton/WB, the Red Wings find themselves in 2nd place (0.5 GB) for the first time since July 26 -- a span on 26 straight days... Still, the Red Wings have a 2.0-game lead in the Wild Card over Norfolk, who won 3-2 in walk-off fashion on Thursday... The Wings Magic Number to clinch a playoff spot remains at 9 games over Norfolk.

-The Wings have now dropped back-to-back home games for the first time since June 10-11 vs Toledo -- a span of 29 games... Still, the Wings are an impressive 22-7 at Frontier Field since those back-to-back losses and their 38-25 mark at Frontier Field this season is 2nd-best in the league.

-Two first-inning errors by Rochester led to three unearned runs for Indianapolis and an error in the 7th led to another unearned run... The Wings have now allowed 13 unearned runs over the last 8 games after yielding just 7 unearned runs over the previous 57 games... Rochester has committed 17 errors over their last 11 games after making only 9 over their previous 29 games which included a season-high, 12-game, 114-inning stretch with no errors from July 21-August 1.

-Pat Dean (1-2) didn't pitch poorly in his Frontier Field debut however he suffered the loss allowing three unearned runs over 5.2 innings... However it was his fielding error in the first that allowed the three unearned runs to score.

-Jeff Clement finished with the only multi-hit game for Rochester going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles... He has now hit in 14 of his last 19 games, batting .286 (22-77) with 2 HR, 3B, 8 2B & 17 RBI.

-The bullpen, which has been a strong suit of late for Rochester, allowed three runs (two earned) in 3.1 innings of relief to raise it's ERA to 3.38 (23 ER/61.1 IP) over the last 18 games... The Wings 'pen had allowed just two runs (one earned) over the previous six contests... RHP A.J Achter allowed just an unearned run in 1.1 IP to lower his ERA to 0.95 (2 ER/19.0 IP) over his last 10 outings

-RHP Jameson Taillon, the highly-touted Pirates prospect, earned his first Triple-A win as he allowed just one run on four hits in six innings of work.
