Red Wings Lefthander Matt Maloney Placed on 7-Day Disabled List

ROCHESTER, NY - Red Wings' lefthander Matt Maloney has been placed on the 7-Day Disabled List with a strained left elbow and righthander Luis Perdomo has been transferred to Triple-A Rochester from Double-A New Britain.

Maloney went 0-4 with a 9.38 ERA in eight games (six starts) for the Red Wings after being designated for assignment by the Minnesota Twins May 9. He went 0-4 with an 11.25 ERA (25 ER/20.0 IP) as a starter. The 28-year-old, who was claimed off waivers from Cincinnati October 31, 2011, last pitched Thursday vs. Durham (Rays). He was touched for six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks in 1.2 innings.

Maloney was scheduled to start tomorrow in the opener of a four-game series at Lehigh Valley (Phillies). His replacement is to be determined.

Perdomo, who will meet the Red Wings at Lehigh Valley tomorrow, went 4-4 with two saves and a 2.75 ERA in 26 games with New Britain. He posted 43 strikeouts in 39.1 innings and did not give up a home run. The 28-year-old limited Eastern League opponents to a .191 average. Perdomo last pitched Saturday at Richmond (Giants), allowing one run and striking out six in 5.0 innings of relief. He signed with the Twins as a minor league free agent November 17, 2011 and was a non-roster invitee at Spring Training.
