International League Names Players of the Week

June 25, 2012 - International League (IL1) News Release

The International League announced today that Louisville outfielder Cody Puckett and Durham pitcher Jim Paduch have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from

June 18-24. Each player is the second from his respective team to win an IL weekly award this season; Puckett follows Paul Janish (April 5-8) while Paduch follows Chris Archer (May 7-13).

CODY PUCKETT, Louisville Bats IL BATTER OF THE WEEK

Outfielder Cody Puckett banged out a League-best 14 hits this week to lead the Louisville Bats to seven straight victories. Entering Monday hitting just .189 for the season, Puckett had three separate games this week with three hits and he also paced the circuit with a .656 on-base percentage and nine runs scored. He scored at least one run in six of his seven games, while adding his first home run of the year on Tuesday. Before this week's outburst, Louisville had won consecutive games just five times this season.

25-year-old Cody Puckett is in his fifth season as a professional player and first above the Double-A level. He was hitting .268 with 7 home runs and 21 RBI in 37 games at Double-A this season before being promoted to Louisville in mid-May. Puckett is a native of Apple Valley, California.

JIM PADUCH, Durham Bulls IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Right-hander Jim Paduch, winless in five straight starts entering the week, surrendered just one earned in 13.0 innings to post consecutive wins this week. A 3rd-inning solo homer by Rochester's Rene Rivera would be Paduch's only blemish in his start last Monday as the Bulls cruised to a 6-1 victory. Paduch tossed 6.0 strong frames, scattering a total of four hits and two walks while matching a season-high with five strikeouts. Facing Buffalo at home Saturday, Paduch went a season-high 7.0 innings and gave up just one unearned run as the Bulls were victorious by the score of 11-5. With the two wins this week, Paduch improved his record on the season to 4-5 and lowered his ERA more than a full run to 4.18.

29-year-old Jim Paduch is in his eighth professional season and second with the Tampa Bay organization. He had just two games of experience at the Triple-A level prior to this season, having pitched once for Louisville in 2006 and once for Durham last year. Paduch is a native of Chicago, Illinois.
