(Rochester, NY) - Minnesota native Cole De Vries (3-5, 4.37) threw eight good innings, J.R. Towles had two hits of the team's six hits, and the Rochester Red Wings went on to beat the Charlotte Knights 4-2 on Monday in the finale of their four-game series from Frontier Field in Rochester, NY. Reliever Kyle Waldrop closed the door in the ninth inning to earn his second save of the season.

With the loss, the Knights dropped three of four games in the series and concluded their overall season series against the Red Wings with a 3-5 record.

Charlotte starter Charlie Shirek (7-4, 3.71) allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits over six innings and was charged with the loss. Shirek did not walk any batters and struck-out five.

Rochester (36-41) scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning when Sean Burroughs singled home Pedro Florimon. Two innings later, Charlotte tied the game when Greg Golson hit a sacrifice fly RBI. Ray Olmedo scored the first of Charlotte's two runs on the day and the game was tied 1-1.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Red Wings broke the game open and scored three runs to make it a 4-1 ballgame. Towles drove-in a run with an RBI single, another run scored on a passed ball by catcher Josh Phegley, and the final run scored when Florimon crossed the plate on a Dallas McPherson fielding error at third base.

Charlotte (44-35) scored one more run along the way to cut the lead in half. In the top of the sixth inning, Phegley's RBI single scored Dan Johnson, but the inning was abruptly cut short when Phegley was thrown out at second base. Conor Jackson chipped in with two hits on the night for Charlotte.

The 12-game road trip will continue on Tuesday with the Knights looking to get back into the win column. The first place Knights currently lead second place Norfolk by five full games.

Charlotte will now travel to Pawtucket to begin a four-game series with the Paw Sox in what will be a battle of two first place teams. Pawtucket currently leads the IL North Division, while the Knights currently lead the IL South Division. RHP Matt Zaleski will take the ball in game one for Charlotte, while Pawtucket will send RHP Billy Buckner to the hill. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
