Red Deer, AB - Brandon Hagel scored once and added a pair of assists to lead the Red Deer Rebels past the Calgary Hitmen 4-3 on Friday night at the ENMAX Centrium.

It was the Rebels first win of the season in three tries while the loss drops the Hitmen record to 0-2.

Jacob Herauf, Alexander Alexeyev and Jeff de Wit also netted goals for the Rebels who built a 4-2 third period lead and then survived a Hitmen push. Calgary fired 18 shots in the final frame but was only able to beat Red Deer goal Ethan Anders once.

Zach Huber, Layne Toder and Hunter Campbell all found of the back of the net for the visitors.

Calgary outshot Red Deer 33-28. The Rebels went 1-4 on the power play with the Hitmen 0-3.

Calgary will now turn their attention to the home opening weekend which starts tomorrow, Saturday, September 29 in the Papa John's Pizza Home Opener against the Edmonton Oil Kings. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome. By using the promo code KIDSPORT1 or KIDSPORT2 $5 from every ticket sold will be donated to KidSport Calgary.

The Hitmen are then back in the 'Dome the next day in a Sunday, September 30 matinee rematch against Rebels. It's the annual Shrine Challenge presented by the Al Azhar Shriners Society. Game time is 4:00 p.m.

The 2018-19 Hitmen Hockey Pass is on sale and includes 34 game tickets to be used anytime, in any combination. Pass holders also receive a $50 Scotiabank Saddledome gift card and a complimentary ticket to a select Flames, Roughnecks or Stampeders game. Passes start at less than $7 per ticket for kids and under $15 for adults.
