The Story Coming In

The Medicine Hat Tigers fell to the Prince Albert Raiders 5-3 last night, despite a strong third-period pushback. Trailing 3-0 heading into the final frame, Tyler Preziuso, Ryan Chyzowski and Henrik Rybinski all scored but it wasn't enough for the comeback as the Raiders scored twice, including on an empty net.

The Tigers have 18 veterans on their roster but are still a young team with an average age of 18.08-years-old. The Tabbies have a 1-3-0-0 record.

Tigers vs. Blades

The last time the Medicine Hat Tigers played the Saskatoon Blades was January 10th, 2018, with the Tigers defeating the Blades in a tight 3-2 game. In the past five seasons, the Tabbies have a 12-4-0-0 record against the Blades including a 6-2-0-0 record in Saskatoon.

The Blades have had a strong start to their 2018-19 WHL Campaign, sweeping the defending champions the Swift Current Broncos in a home and home series during opening weekend. Currently, the Blades are sitting 3rd in the Eastern Division and have outscored opponents 10-1. The deadly offensive combination of Kirby Dach (3G, 4A) and Max Gerlach (3G, 2A) will look to terrorize the Tigers' defence.

Tigers Talent

Henrik Rybinski is the speedy, fearless forward in his sophomore season with the Tigers. The 17-year-old Vancouver product has 1 goal and 1 assist in 4 games played and he has been a thorn in opponent's sides. Rybinski finished his rookie campaign in 2017-18 with 3 goals and 9 assists in 63 games. He is expected to exceeds that production this season. Look for Rybinski to drive to the net and create scoring lanes in tonight's contest.

Captain's Corner

James Hamblin has been called upon to lead the 49th Edition of the Medicine Hat Tigers. Hamblin is a former first-round bantam pick of the Tabbies (2014, 17th overall). In 198 games played for the Orange and Black, Hamblin has 48 goals and 72 assists for 120 points including 5 points (2G, 3A) in 4 games so far this season. The 19-year-old Edmonton product is a speedy, hard working two way forward who will drive to the net to create scoring opportunities for the Tigers.

Ryan Chyzowski scored his first Career WHL goal against the Saskatoon Blades during a 5-1 Tigers victory September 30th, 2016.

Cole Clayton scored his first Career WHL goal against the Saskatoon Blades during a 6-2 Tabbies win September 29th, 2017.

Six Tigers were invited to NHL Rookie Tournaments and Main Training Camps. Jordan Hollett (Ottawa Senators), David Quenneville (New York Islanders), Mason Shaw (Minnesota Wild), Linus Nassen (Florida Panthers), Dylan MacPherson (Florida Panthers - invite) and Ryan Chyzowski (Vegas Golden Knights - invite). Hollett and Chyzowski have both rejoined the Tigers. Shaw, Quenneville, Nassen and MacPherson are all at the affiliated AHL Training Camps.

The Orange and Black continue their scoring by committee approach as 9 different players have scored the team's 12 goals this season. Hamblin (2), Preziuso (2), Lockner (2), Haden (1), Jevne (1), Chyzowski (1), Rybinski (1), Brown (1), Van Impe (1).

Jordan Hollett has made 127 saves on 139 shots faced in 4 games so far this season.

The Medicine Hat Tigers are a junior hockey team in the Western Hockey League (WHL) who play out of Medicine Hat, AB and were established in 1970. In 48 seasons of playing major junior hockey, the Tigers have won 2 Scotty Munro Memorial Trophies, as well as, 210 playoff games which led to winning 43 playoff series, raising 33 banners, winning five Ed Chynoweth Cups and two Memorial Cups.
