Red Claws Schedule Announced
August 13, 2009 - NBA G League (G League)
Maine Celtics News Release
PORTLAND, MAINE - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced the schedule for their inaugural season. The announcement was made by Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings.
The Red Claws will play a 50-game schedule, with 24 games at home, 24 on the road and a two-game league showcase. The 2010 NBA D-League Showcase will take place on January 4-7 at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho.
The Red Claws will open on the road, facing the Sioux Falls Skyforce in South Dakota on Friday, November 27. The team will then travel to Bismarck, North Dakota the following evening to face the Dakota Wizards. The Red Claws will open up the home portion of their schedule on Friday, December 4 as they face the Springfield Armor at the Portland Exposition Building at 8 PM in the first game of a home-and-home series. The Armor - who join the Red Claws in the newly formed Eastern Conference along with the Dakota Wizards, Erie Bayhawks, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Iowa Energy and Sioux Falls Skyforce - is expected to quickly become the Red Claws' biggest rival.
"The release of the schedule, along with the unveiling of our jerseys earlier today, brings the inaugural season of the Maine Red Claws that much closer. You can feel the excitement building every day," said Jennings. "This schedule will give Maine fans a great introduction to the NBA D-League and the quality of talent that exists in this league. The Red Claws will be seen and known throughout the country, and we will be proud to have our players wearing "Maine" across their chests."
The Red Claws will play 24 home games at the Portland Expo this season, with 19 of those games falling on weekend dates. Maine fans will have the opportunity to see nine of the Red Claws' 15 NBA D-League opponents, with the Springfield Armor, Tulsa 66ers, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Bakersfield Jam, Iowa Energy, Erie Bayhawks, Austin Toros, Sioux Falls Skyforce, and Albuquerque Thunderbirds all making trips to Portland during the 2009-10 season.
Maine Red Claws' fans can view, print or even download the schedule directly into their Outlook calendar from the team's website, www.maineredclaws.com. To have a pocket schedule, which will be available soon, mailed to them, fans should mail a self-addressed stamped envelope to: Maine Red Claws, Attn: Pocket Schedules, PO Box 15180, Portland, ME 04112.
