2009-10 Nba Development League Schedule Highlighted By New Teams

August 13, 2009 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

NEW YORK, Aug. 13, 2009 - The NBA Development League today released its

schedule for the 2009-10 season, which includes the inaugural games for the

Maine Red Claws and Springfield Armor. Each team will play nearly

two-thirds of its 50-game schedule on weekends, allowing NBA D-League fans

and families to catch more of the action, while enjoying affordable

family-friendly prices.

Fans can stay in step with their favorite team through NBA Futurecast, the

NBA D-League's web-streaming platform, where they can watch every minute of

2009-10 NBA D-League action live online for free at www.nba.com/futurecast.

The ninth NBA D-League season begins Nov. 27, with six games, including the

first NBA D-League game played at Springfield's MassMutual Center when the

Armor opens its inaugural season by hosting the Iowa Energy. That same

night, the Red Claws travel to Sioux Falls to take on the Skyforce in their

first NBA D-League game.

The two New England teams tip off against each other for a regional rivalry

weekend when the Red Claws host the Armor in their first game at the

Portland Expo Center on Friday, Dec. 4. The next night, Maine travels to

Massachusetts to play in Springfield on Saturday, Dec. 5.

"Coming off of an exciting 2008-09 campaign, I know we're all eager to tip

off what is sure to be another action-packed year on and off the court,"

said Dan Reed, NBA D-League President. "As the NBA D-League continues to

expand its footprint in the Northeast, and with season tickets available in

every market for as little as $10 or less per game, more fans and families

alike will be able to watch top NBA prospects at affordable prices in a

fast-paced, fun, and family-oriented environment."

The NBA D-League All-Star Game and NBA D-League Dream Factory festivities,

which will be part of NBA Jam Session presented by adidas at NBA All-Star

2010 in Dallas, highlight the schedule in February. The league's best take

to the court for the fourth annual NBA D-League All-Star Game on Saturday,

Feb. 13 on Center Court at Jam Session presented by adidas. The league's

top stars will also compete in Dream Factory, the NBA D-League's skills

competition featuring high-flying dunkers and sharp shooters displaying

their talents. NBA D-League All-Stars will be selected by a vote that

includes fans and NBA D-League coaches.

The fifth Annual NBA D-League Showcase returns to Idaho this January as all

16 teams play two games each at Qwest Arena in downtown Boise. Top NBA

prospects display their talents in front of an expected gathering of scouts

from all 30 NBA teams, while putting on a show for their fans. The

Showcase has historically been a springboard for GATORADE Call-Ups to the

NBA, with players such as 2009 Finals participant Shannon Brown, along with

Ramon Sessions, Jose Barea, Andrew Bynum, Chuck Hayes and Mikki Moore all

got the call following their performance in the winter classic. The full

Showcase schedule will be available in the coming weeks.

For the first time, the NBA D-League will feature two conferences, East and

West, for the 2009-10 season with the Red Claws and Armor joining the

Eastern Conference. The Eastern Conference will consist of the Dakota

Wizards, Erie BayHawks, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Iowa Energy, Maine Red Claws,

Sioux Falls Skyforce and Springfield Armor, while the Western Conference

includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds, Austin Toros, Bakersfield Jam, Los

Angeles D-Fenders, Idaho Stampede, Reno Bighorns, Rio Grande Valley Vipers,

Tulsa 66ers and Utah Flash.

The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA's official minor

league whose teams have direct affiliations to NBA franchises. For the

2009-10 season, the league will feature 16 teams - including the debut of

the Maine Red Claws and the Springfield Armor. A proven developer of

talent, 20 percent of players in the NBA at the conclusion of the 2008-09

season boasted NBA D-League experience, while the league continues to

develop coaches, referees, and front office staff for the NBA and its

teams. In fostering the league's connection to the community, its teams,

players and staff promote health and wellness, support local needs and

interests, and assist in educational development through NBA D-League Cares

programs. The NBA D-League also advances the game of basketball as the

research and development arm of the NBA. Throughout the season fans can

watch all NBA D-League games on NBA Futurecast, the free live Web-streaming

initiative found at nba.com/futurecast.
