
Red Claws' Rally Falls Short in OT

Frisco, TX - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, erased a 21 point deficit in the 2nd half, only to fall in overtime to the Texas Legends, 105-101.
Maine (2-7) was led by Walt Lemon with 18 points and 6 assists. Fellow Boston Celtics Two-Way Player P.J. Dozier added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Nick King scored 14 points to lead bench scoring, while Vitto Brown and Sheldon Jeter each scored 11 points off the bench.
Texas (5-4) was led by Rashad Vaughn with 26 points.
Jeff Roberson opened the scoring with a pair of deep three's. Georges-Hunt knocked in a pair of corner three's as well to put Maine up 12-3 early. The Legends righted the ship, scoring 7 straight to cut it to 2. Maine made 5 of its first 7 three-pointers, and Dozier made a couple of buckets to put Maine up 22-17. Texas finished the quarter on a 9-2 run, with Justin Tubbs hitting a last second three to give the Legends a 26-24 lead after one.
In the 2nd, the teams traded buckets early. Tubbs slammed home a Lemon turnover to put the Legends up 6. Dozier got the Claws back into the game, tying it all up at 40. On the other side, Rashad Vaughn caught fire, draining two in a row from downtown to put Texas up 7. The Legends extended to its largest lead of the game in the final minute, going up 15 on a Keith Hornsby three. Another triple in the final seconds made it 67-51 at the half. After the hot start from three, Maine shot 8-21 in the first half from downtown, while Texas shot 52% (11-21).
Jameel Warney opened up the scoring in the 3rd with a 3 point play, followed by a Hornsby lay-up off a steal. Just like that, the Red Claws were down 21. Nick King and the Red Claws were able to nibble away at the deficit, cutting it to 11 at 75-64. Dozier's fadeaway cut it to single digits at 75-66. At the end of 3, Maine trailed by 11 at 81-70.
In the 4th, Sheldon Jeter opened with a three to cut it to 8, and John Bohannon's put back made it 81-75. Lemon's steal and dunk made it a one point game at 83-82. Maine took the lead at 86-85 with a Lemon lay-up. King helped carry the Red Claws in the 4th, keeping the game tied. Jeter's slam put the Claws up 4. Down 3, Brown buried a triple to tie it at 99 with a minute to go. Maine got a huge defensive stop to keep it tied and force OT. Maine out-scored Texas 48-32 in the 2nd half to force overtime.
Dozier tied the game at 101 in OT, but then fouled out of the game on the next possession. The free throws put Texas up 2. In the final :10, Maine lost a crucial jump ball, and Texas hit the free throws to put the game away.
Maine wound up shooting 44% (42-95) from the field, 31% (12-39) from three-point range, and 5-10 from the free throw line. Texas shot 42% (35-84) from the floor, 32% (12-37) from downtown and 23-26 from the charity stripe.
