Stars Fall to Warriors in Final Game of Road Trip

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors 110-104 at Kaiser Permanente Arena tonight to wrap up their three-game road trip.

All five starters scored in double figures for the Stars (4-4), led by Willie Reed, who notched his fourth 20/10 game (fifth double-double) of the season with 23 points on 11-of-15 (.733) from the field and a game-high 14 rebounds. Isaiah Cousins recorded his second double-double of the season with 10 points and an NBA G League career-high-tying 11 assists, while Utah Jazz two-way player Naz Mitrou-Long finished with 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds in 36 minutes. Tony Bradley, currently on assignment from the Utah Jazz, tallied 14 points, connecting on an NBA G League career-high two three-pointers (2-of-2 3FG), and Utah Jazz two-way player Tyler Cavanaugh finished with 14 points to lead all Stars reserves.

The Warriors (8-0) were led by Darius Morris, the reigning NBA G League Player of the Week, who finished with a game-high 24 points (20 in the second half) and a team-high nine assists. Golden State Warriors two-way player Marcus Derrickson recorded 14 points (all in the first half), while Juan Toscano-Anderson recorded his second double-double of the season with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Kendrick Nunn and Alen Smailagic each scored 17 points off the bench.

There were four lead changes in the first quarter, with Salt Lake City taking a one-point edge (27-26) to start the second frame. The Stars led by as many as 12 points in the second quarter (48-36), but the Warriors went on an 11-0 run to end the second frame and begin the third to cut the lead to one (48-47). The Warriors owned a two-point advantage (76-74) entering the fourth quarter, which featured six lead changes and three ties. Santa Cruz led by one point (98-97) with 1:39 remaining in the game and increased their lead courtesy of an 8-2 spurt, ultimately securing their NBA G League-leading eighth-straight victory to begin the 2018-19 campaign.

The Stars, who entered tonight's contest leading the NBA G League in assists per game (26.4), dished out a season-high-tying 29 helpers compared to the Warriors' 23 assists. The Stars held the edge in three-pointers made (12-8) and blocks (7-2), while Santa Cruz committed fewer turnovers (17-22) and owned the advantage in rebounds (44-43), free throws made (24-4) and free throws attempted (27-5). The Stars outshot the Warriors (.506-.429), marking Salt Lake City's third game this season shooting 50 percent or higher from the field.

The Stars will return to Salt Lake City to host the Maine Red Claws (Boston Celtics affiliate) on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. (MT) at Bruin Arena for their first game against an Eastern Conference opponent this season. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
