South Bay Wins as Sioux Falls Flames out Late

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The South Bay Lakers grabbed their first road win of the season as they beat the Sioux Falls Skyforce, 112-109, on Saturday night. Scott Machado had his best game of the season with 33 points and nine assists to give the Lakers (3-7) the much-needed win. Yante Maten tallied a double-double with 31 points and 19 rebounds but the Skyforce (8-2) fell for only the second time this season.

Sioux Falls held a slight 27-26 lead after the first quarter as Briante Weber scored 10 points in the early frame. Johnathan Williams paced the Lakers with eight points in the opening quarter. The Skyforce extended their lead at the half, 61-56, despite 11 points from Scott Machado in the second quarter. Maten had 12 points in the second to push the Skyforce lead to six.

In the third quarter, the Lakers cut the lead to three, 83-80, behind a balanced scoring effort. Machado scored 16 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lakers to their first road victory of the season. South Bay shot 9-of-10 from the free throw line in the fourth to grab the win.

Maten's huge double-double paced the Skyforce as Weber tallied another big night with 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and eight steals. Charles Cooke came off the bench with 20 points while Malik Newman (12 points) and Rodney Purvis (10 points) also reached double figures.

Machado came alive for South Bay as the Lakers rallied back to win the second game of their back-to-back. Johnathan Williams tallied a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds while Jemerrio Jones continued to dominate the boards with 11 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. Demarcus Holland also scored in double digits with 17 points and seven rebounds.

The South Bay Lakers will return home to host the Texas Legends on Wednesday, November 28 at 7:00pm PT from the UCLA Health Training Center.
