Go-Go Unable to Stop Charge, Lose First Game of Weekend Series

The Canton Charge (3-4) used a 70-point first half and never looked back as they defeated the Capital City Go-Go (2-4), 115-105, on Friday night in Congress Heights.

Canton was led by Cavaliers two-way player Billy Preston, who scored a season-high 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting off the bench. Led by Preston, the Charge bench outscored its Go-Go counterparts 63-27, receiving contributions from JaCorey Williams (15 points, 13 rebounds) and Jaron Blossomgame (14 points, seven rebounds).

Devin Robinson, who finished the game with season highs of 29 points and 13 rebounds, cut the Charge lead to 78-75 with 5:13 remaining in the third quarter. Canton was then able to hold the Go-Go to three points for eight minutes, stretching into the fourth quarter to build a 19-point lead with 10 minutes remaining. Canton entered the game allowing the fourth-fewest points per game in the NBA G League at 103.8 points per game.

All five Go-Go starters scored in double figures, as Lavoy Allen chipped in his first double-double of the season (12 points, 13 rebounds). Wizards' first-round pick and assignment player, Troy Brown Jr., had 13 points and four assists in the contest.

The Go-Go will host the Charge again on Sunday afternoon (3 p.m.) as they look to split the weekend series.

On tonight's game:

"The biggest thing that was disappointing to me in this loss was the lack of effort at certain times throughout the game. I thought at certain times our offense predicated our defense, and it can't be like that. We're going to pride ourselves on being a defensive team it has to be that way no matter if the ball is going in the basket or not."

On the Go-Go's ball sharing:

"I thought we shared it better in the fourth. You know, obviously, it's tougher. Some guys are trying to find their spots on the roster, in the lineups that we've had and that we put out on the court. The ball movement could've been a lot better, but I thought we missed a lot of chippies - a lot of easy shots. We had a number of players miss shots that they usually make. I'm positive moving forward that if we continue with the ball movement we'll make those shots again."

On what contributed to the Go-Go's lack of rhythm at times:

"I thought us missing some of those shots kind of took the air out of our balloon at times, but I just want our guys to continue to play defense as a unit. I think when you play unselfishly on the defensive end, it translates on the offensive end. I thought that myself included, we got sidetracked with the officiating at times. I have to do a better job of being a leader, of keeping my composure."
