Red Claws Lose Heartbreaker to Erie 113-109

PORTLAND, ME - Maine (11-17) dropped a heartbreaker to the Erie BayHawks (18-9) 113-109 at the Portland Exposition Building despite a stellar effort by Boston Celtics assignee Avery Bradley. Bradley finished the night with a career-high 24 points, adding 8 assists and 6 defensive rebounds.
The first half of tonight's game was close and fast paced, but the Red Claws had a 10-0 run in the third quarter to help them gain the advantage they were looking for. The shooting talent for both teams was dominant in the fourth quarter, but the BayHawks hit some key free throws that brought them to the four-point victory over the Red Claws.
Maine's high scorers of the night were guard Avery Bradley with 24, guard Jamar Smith with 19 points, and Tiny Gallon with 22 points. Antonio Anderson also added 7 points for his first night in Portland.
Erie's top scorers were guard Blake Ahearn contributing 29, Tasmin Mitchell adding 25, and Kyle Goldcamp with 15 to earn the victory.
The Red Claws will be back in action on Sunday when they host the red hot Tulsa 66ers, including Bridgton Academy grad Robert Vaden. Tip-off is 5 PM. The BayHawks will be idle until February 5 when they travel to Austin for at matinee with the Austin Toros.
RED CLAWS ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS FOR HIGH FIVE SCHOLARSHIPS: The Maine Red Claws are now accepting nominations for the 2011 Maine Red Claws High Five Scholarships. Five $1,000 scholarships, in the form of NextGen 529 accounts, will be awarded to Maine 4th graders. The Red Claws are asking secondary school principals, teachers and/or guidance counselors to collaborate in identifying the deserving 4th grade students in their communities. The High Five Scholarship Program seeks to recognize students and help motivate these young people to achieve their potential, to be involved in their schools, to be catalysts for positive change in their communities and to serve as models for their fellow students.
