Red Claws 2nd Half Surge Leads to Sixth Straight Win

The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, used a strong second half performance outscoring the BayHawks 57-35 in the second half to secure a 97-84 win over the Erie BayHawks (5-7). This extends the Red Claws' (10-2) win streak against Erie to 6 games along with extending the home unbeaten streak to 6 on the season, making it the best start in team history.

It didn't start well for Maine. Seth Curry had a big contribution to the BayHawks 29-19 lead in the first quarter, scoring 12 of his 25 points in the first 6:30 minutes of the game. Erie shot 65% in the first quarter capturing their biggest lead of the game (13) during that quarter. Ralph Sampson III led the Red Claws in scoring during the first quarter with 8 of his 12 total points.

Despite the 10 point deficit in the first quarter, Maine went on to outscore the BayHawks in the remaining three quarters. Andre Stringer sparked the Red Claws second half surge scoring 12 points (3-3 from FG, 3-3 from 3P) in 7:49 of play after coming off the bench in the third quarter. Omari Johnson matched Stringer's third quarter spark with 10 points, (4-4 from FG, 2-2 from 3P) and 1 assist

Curry led all scorers with 25 points, 3 assists and 2 steals. Daniel Coursey also had a double digit performance for the visitors (20) with 2 steals and 2 blocks.

Johnson (23 points, 2 assists, 1 steal) led the Red Claws in scoring. Chris Babb (20 points, 7 assists, 1 steal), Andre Stringer (13 points, 2 assists, 1 steal) and Ralph Sampson III (12 points, 1 assists) also scored in double digits for the Red Claws. Asauhn Dixon-Tatum had a strong defensive performance for the Red Claws with 3 blocks on the night.

The Red Claws next play tomorrow night (Saturday, Dec. 20) at home against Westchester. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
